A Wise Deer and A Cowardly Tiger Story
There was a dense forest on the sides of a mountain. Many types of animals lived in the forest. A doe was eating grass and leaves with her two cubs. The youth started roaming here and there happily. The deer followed behind her cubs. The youth entered a cave. The deer got scared. It was a tiger’s den. There were bones of dead animals all around the cave. Fortunately, the tiger was not inside the cave at that time.
The deer was trying to get her kids out of the cave. At the same time he heard a loud roar. He saw a tiger from a distance. The tiger was coming towards the cave. It was now dangerous to get out of the cave. He thought of a plan. The tiger came closer to the cave. The deer raised her voice and shouted, “My baby deer don’t cry. I will catch the tiger for you to eat. You can have a nice dinner.”
The tiger heard these words. He was worried. He said to himself, “Who is that strange voice from the cave? A dangerous animal is living inside to catch me. I will run away to escape death.”
By saying this, the tiger started running away from there.
A jackal saw the tiger running away. The jackal asked, “Why are you running away in great fear?” For them to catch a lion. Therefore, I am running away in great fear.
The sly jackal was now relaxed. The tiger was fearful. It said to the tiger. “Don’t be afraid. No animal is more fierce or more powerful than a tiger. Let us find out together.”
But the tiger said, “I don’t want to take the risk. You can run away. I will be left alone to die. That’s why I won’t come with you.”
The jackal said, “Trust me. Let us join our tails together. Then I won’t be able to leave you.”
The tiger reluctantly accepted the offer. The jackal knotted their tails. Now they both went towards the cave together.

The deer saw the jackal and the tiger coming together. He raised his voice again. She shouted to her children standing inside the cave, “My dear children, I requested my friend, the clever jackal, to catch a tiger for us. Now look the jackal has caught a lion for us. He has tied the tiger’s tail to his tail. This is done to prevent the tiger from running away. You will soon have a lion for us to eat.”
The tiger heard this. He was shocked. He was sure now. The jackal cheated him. So, the tiger decided to escape from the terrifying beast standing inside his cave. He started running. He forgot the jackal. He dragged the jackal over stones and thorns. In a mad escape, the jackal got trapped between two stones. The tiger pulled with all his might. His tail was cut off. The jackal was killed in this incident. The tailless tiger fled to another part of the forest.
The deer and her cubs came out of the tiger’s cave. They rejoined their herd safely.
